Topic: 16.5 inch rims

I have had a couple of blowouts recently that have damaged rims and am wondering if anyone know of a source for new rims.  I am having problem finding any in my neck of the woods.

Re: 16.5 inch rims

Where is your neck of the woods? I have sold two, which means I have 4 left. Mine are the heavier ones. I'm running 16 inch American Racing wheels all the way around do to a much better selection of tires. The offset is not correct, but I have not had a problem  with it. On the rears, I removed the spacers and the rim bolts directly to the hub, which locates the wheel a half inch wider than the stock position. The front sets two inches wider than stock.

Re: 16.5 inch rims

We are in Red Deer Alberta.  I found a set of four American Racing aluminum rims but It appears they only have a 3000 or3200 lb capacity.  I do not think that is enough.  They would work on the rears, but cannot find the same for the fronts.  I just put new rubber on all around at 16.5 and do not want to throw them away.  Howie.

Re: 16.5 inch rims

What year coach do you have? If its pre-'85, 3K lbs should be OK. I don't know what the axle weight rating is on the later models. I have ~2300 llbs on each rear wheel, and 2500 lbs on each front wheel.

You are a ways away, I'm near Chicago. Not sure what it takes to import rims across the boarder. I sold two of my 16.5 rims a few years back for 100 bucks a piece. Marty More gets 400 bucks a piece for them. I would only let two more go, I want to keep one pair on hand just because.

Re: 16.5 inch rims

One of my original rims separated in the centre weld.  It was not rusted or showing any particular signs of wear.  The second one bit the dust with a front blowout, along  with my inner fender liner which I had to replace.

The weight rating I got from parking my loaded rig front end onto a government scale.  Assuming the scale was right, I was close to 6000 lbs on the front two.  Maybe I am getting a false reading by parking too far over the scale bed.

In any event, I think I will get the four used ones and then order two more new for the paltry sum of $300.00 C shipped to my door and try not to hit too much rough road.  If I can find another used set of four, I will try to make myself a set of eight for safety sake.

Thank you for the information.

Howie Friesen.

I realize the posts are over a year old but thought I would post a reply, not as a reply so much as a comment:
If the time comes for replacing your tires and you are still rinning on 16.5 rims think real hard about switching to alloy (aluminum) wheels.  After reading about the advantages to the alloy wheels it should not take too much thinking.  The fit? The spacers? The clearance?  I let Les Schwab tires handle the whole deal, wheel at $101 per (Ultra 61 includes the center caps -- some charg up to $20 each) The new 16" tires are load range E (10 Ply) at $130 each.  Everything is great and really looks fantastic.  Swich, the cost will be returned on your second set of tires and no more busted seams or hubs flying off.  Also, just a note, some in times past have worried over getting a wheel alignment on the Revcon, thinking it takes something special because of the front wheel drive, but guess what, it does not.  Schwab was able to align the front end with no problem and did it for free when they put the new tires on.  No I don't work for Les Schwab (too old) but I have found them tops when it comes to tires and brakes -- plus, we got $50 worth of steaks (only in Febuarys).

Re: 16.5 inch rims

I did change over to American Eagle 16 inch.  but only on the front as I am driving off the rear 16.5's.  I realize I will have to do some adjustments on the rear to have them fit under the fender skirts as they are 26575R16's but that is okay.  Also rebuilt the front end with coil over shocks to pick up the sag.  Howie.
